Joseph Johnson’s father was always at work when he woke for school and never got home until long after the youngster had gone to bed.

That was the memory anyway – even if it was one dispelled by countless family photos of the pair laughing and having fun.
So when Joseph decided to become a fireman “to help other people”, his dad couldn’t hide his disappointment that a career as an architect appeared to be fading away.
“There was so much I didn’t know about my father. Sometimes I didn’t feel like he really understood me,” he said.
Until last year, when the pair jumped on their Triumph Bonnevilles to cross Bolivia on a journey of discovery… about their bikes, their country and most importantly, themselves.
