London Calling: an artistic Triumph

Clash frontman Paul Simonon’s twin passions

For a decade from the mid-70s, Paul Simonon was the leading figure in the world rock scene as bassist with iconic British band The Clash.

The café racer and vintage iron fan whose first two-wheeled love was a white and gold Triumph 3TA helped snarl out the post-punk beats with socially ironic venom.

Who knew then that the early fan of cafe racers who eventually moved the London Calling band beyond leather and safety pins toward heritage clothing and Rocker gear had another secret love?

It’s being brought to life in an exhibition at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts titled “Wot! No Bike?” Take a look here.
