Ask sportsbike legend Carl Fogarty about Triumph’s latest addition to its street bike stable, and his response is unprintable.
After throwing his leg over the new Street Cup at the recent Intermot show, he was in typically ebullient mood as he waxed lyrical with the media.
“It’s a blinged up version of the Street Twin, a cool little thing. Look up cool or iconic in the dictionary and it’ll show a ******* picture of Triumph. Everything they do is so cool and this is a nice addition to the family,” he told MCN.
“It’s a cross between the café racer and retro feel. The positioning of the Street Cup is just great, it’s so comfortable and a fun position to be in for whatever ride you like.”
Packed with technology including ride-by-wire, switchable traction control, ABS and torque-assist clutch, it gets its strong street racer attitude from minimal bodywork and new urban sports features such as the authentic bullet seat and removable café racer seat cowl.
The WSB champion admits his love affair with riding – he has a Street Triple and a Thruxton R – has been rekindled by his links with Triumph: “Triumph suits me. They’re just really down-to-earth guys. Very jeans and T-shirt style and I love that.
“It’s only the last few years I’ve realised I love riding motorbikes. I guess the other years I didn’t really enjoy riding because I still felt like I had to win to prove a point. That’s finally gone now. I now enjoy riding bikes for fun, which I never did before, and that’s a real shame.”
